Time until the main thing appears
Usually your header image or headline. Google wants it inside 2.5 seconds on a phone.
Free speed test
Put your address in below and we will run it through Google PageSpeed Insights, the same tool Google uses. You get your numbers, and ours next to them, so you can see what the difference actually looks like.
Test your own site, or one you look after. Plenty of sites come back quick, and if yours does we will say so.
What we measure
Google gives every site a score out of 100. It is a useful headline and a poor argument, because it moves about between runs. These five are the numbers underneath it, and they are the ones worth fixing.
LCP
Usually your header image or headline. Google wants it inside 2.5 seconds on a phone.
CLS
The reason you go to tap something and hit an advert instead. Should be close to zero.
INP
From finger on screen to something happening. Under 200 milliseconds feels instant.
Page weight
Every unresized photo and unused plugin is in here. It is the cause behind most of the numbers above.
Requests
A typical builder site asks for well over a hundred. Each one is another round trip on a weak signal.
Our benchmark
These are the figures for our own homepage, measured on the same Google test you are about to run. They are one fixed set of numbers, taken on the date stamped below, rather than a run we make live while you wait: one unlucky run should not decide what you are comparing yourself to. Your result will show your figures beside these.
Google holds no real visitor data for us either. We are below its traffic threshold, the same as most small business sites, so our column is a single test run, and yours may well be too.

Before you run one
Here is the shape of the answer, on an example site, so you can see it before you wait for your own. The figures below are examples, not a real measurement.

The honest bit
A test run is not a verdict
Where Google has no real visitor data for a site, we run a single test instead. That is one machine on one connection on one day, so treat it as a starting point. We label every result with which of the two you are looking at.
Speed is not the whole job
A quick site that nobody can find, or that does not say what you do, is still a problem. This test measures one thing well rather than pretending to audit everything.
Your site, not somebody else's
This is here for checking your own site or one you look after. We do not publish results about named businesses, and we will not send you a report about a competitor.
One address, about a minute, and no email needed to see the result.
