There’s no single answer to “How much does a website cost?” Two quotes may cover very different work. These are some things that can change the price.
A five-page website takes less work than a 40-page site with service and location pages.
Changing a ready-made design usually costs less than making a new design for your business.
Online shops, booking forms, payments, member areas and links to other tools take extra time to build and test.
Some prices include writing and photos. Others expect you to provide them.
Freelancers, small studios and large agencies charge different prices. Prices also vary around the UK.
Hosting, updates, backups and changes may be included, cost extra or be your job to arrange.
You see your homepage before you pay. Then we build the rest of the site in about a week and look after it for you.

You don’t need to give us your card details. If you want changes, we’ll make them. If you decide not to go ahead, you pay nothing.
Set up your monthly payment. Your first £100 payment starts the rest of the website build.

Your website address and content belong to you: This includes your words, photos, logo and prices. If we buy a website address for you, it belongs to you by law.
We own the design and code we make. You can use them while you’re on the plan.

Minimum termNone
You don’t have to stay for a set time. There’s no notice period or exit fee. We take payment in advance. Your plan renews every 30 days until you cancel.

You can cancel at any time by writing to us. Your service continues until the end of the 30 days you’ve paid for. We won’t take another payment.
When your service ends, your right to use our design and code ends too. We take the website offline. We don’t refund payments you’ve already made because they paid for the service during that time.

It depends on who builds it and what the price includes. Website builders such as Wix and Squarespace list popular plans at about £9 to £29 a month, paid a year in advance. One UK guide lists £500 to £1,500 for a simple 3 to 5 page site from a freelancer, and another lists £2,000 to £7,000 for a small business website built by an agency. With Coullweb it is £100 a month, with hosting, upkeep and changes included.
One UK guide lists £50 to £300 a month after launch for hosting, website address renewal, security, upkeep and changes, or £25 to £120 an hour if you pay for each change. A .co.uk website address costs about £9.95 a year at one shop, before VAT. With Coullweb, the running costs are part of the £100 a month.
Paying upfront suits you if you will look after the site yourself, or someone can look after it for you afterwards. Paying monthly spreads the cost and puts the hosting, security and changes on someone else. Either way, check who makes changes and what happens if you leave before you sign.
